In the ever-evolving world of marketing & branding, there's one timeless strategy that continues to stand out as the key to capturing hearts and minds - storytelling. At Brangerine, we believe that storytelling is more than just a buzzword; it's the core of brand identity and connection.
Why Does Storytelling Matter?
Storytelling is woven into our the human experience. From ancient cave paintings to today's digital media, to parables in the Bible. Stories have always been our primary means of communication and understanding. They have the unique ability to cut through the noise and leave a lasting impact. For brands, this is invaluable.
Build Emotional Connections
Effective storytelling creates emotional connections between your brand and your audience. When you share a compelling story, you allow customers to see themselves in it. They begin to associate your brand with a feeling tied to an experience. As a result, you become more than a product or service; you become a part of their lives.
Showcase Your Brand's Personality
Every brand has a personality, and storytelling is how you bring life into it. It’s the narratives, you can showcase that present your brands values, mission, and culture. It's a powerful way to communicate what your brand stands for. In todays market it is also a way to bring a sense of entertainment to your audience, which over time creates a unique community that shares your companies core values.
Make Complex Concepts Digestible
Storytelling is also an excellent tool for breaking down complex ideas. Whether you're explaining a new product or your company's origin story, stories simplify information and make it easier for your audience to grasp. While your competition focuses on the what, storytelling allows for the why to be showcased, allowing your brand to stand out.
Our Approach to Brand Storytelling
At Brangerine, our approach to brand storytelling is rooted in authenticity and creativity. We work closely with our clients to unearth the unique stories that make their brand stand out. From there, we craft narratives that resonate with their target audience.
The Three Pillars of Successful Brand Storytelling
Authenticity: Authenticity is the heart of every good story. Your brand story should be genuine and true to your values. Inauthenticity is easily spotted and can lead to a loss of trust.
Emotion: Stories should evoke emotion. Whether it's excitement, nostalgia, or hope, emotions help your audience connect on a deeper level.
Simplicity: Keep it simple. A convoluted story can lose your audience's attention. The most powerful stories are often the most straightforward.
Brangerine's Success Stories
We've had the privilege of helping numerous brands develop their unique stories. From startups making their first mark to established companies looking to rebrand, we've seen how storytelling transforms their impact.
Conclusion:
The art of storytelling is at the heart of every brand's success. It's how you make a lasting impression and foster a community of loyal customers. At Brangerine, we're passionate about helping you uncover your unique story and sharing it with the world.

DIY Branding
As a small business owner, you may be looking for ways to save money and do as much as possible on your own. While it's important to seek professional help when necessary, & within your budget, there are however many branding tasks that you can tackle on your own. Here are some DIY branding tips for small business owners:
1. Define your brand identity.
Before you start creating any branding materials, it's important to have a clear understanding of your brand identity. This includes your brand's mission, values, personality, and target audience. Take some time to brainstorm and write down your answers to the following questions:
What does your business do?
What makes your business unique?
Who is your target audience?
What do you want your business to be known for?
Having a clear understanding of your brand identity will help guide all of your branding decisions and ensure that your materials are consistent and cohesive.
2. Create a visual brand identity.
Your visual brand identity includes elements such as your logo, color palette, typography, and imagery. These elements should be consistent across all of your branding materials and should accurately reflect your brand identity.
If you're not a designer, don't worry! There are many tools available that can help you create professional-looking branding materials even if you have no design experience. Canva is a popular option that offers a wide range of templates and design elements that you can use to create logos, business cards, social media graphics, and more.
3. Develop a brand voice.
Your brand voice is the tone and personality that you use in your communication and messaging. It should be consistent across all channels and should accurately reflect your brand identity.
To develop your brand voice, consider the following questions:
How do you want your brand to be perceived?
What words and phrases reflect your brand personality?
How do you want to communicate with your audience?
Once you have a clear understanding of your brand voice, be sure to use it consistently in all of your messaging, including your website, social media posts, and emails.
4. Create a brand style guide.
A brand style guide is a document that outlines all of the key elements of your brand identity and provides guidelines for how they should be used. This includes your logo, color palette, typography, imagery, and brand voice.
Having a brand style guide will help ensure that all of your branding materials are consistent and cohesive. It's a good idea to create one even if you're just starting out, as it will make it easier to stay on track as you grow and expand your brand.
In conclusion, while it's important to seek professional help when necessary, there are also many branding tasks that small business owners can tackle on their own. By defining your brand identity, creating a visual brand identity, developing a brand voice, and creating a brand style guide, you can create a strong and cohesive brand without breaking the bank.

Brangerine Ver 2.0
Between work, client projects, trying to stay consistent in other areas of my life and just not knowing what to blog about, I’ve dropped the ball hard. But things are turning around. The new site is fully customized for the world of Web 3.0 which is what I’d like to dive into for this article, follow along :)
Hey there, Jake here. If you’re seeing this I’d like to apologize for my lack of blogging, to be honest I’ve been practically a one man team for the most part. Between work, client projects, trying to stay consistent in other areas of my life and just not knowing what to blog about, I’ve dropped the ball hard. But things are turning around. The new site is fully customized for the world of Web 3.0 which is what I’d like to dive into for this article, follow along :)
First off what is Web 3?
Web 3.0 is the culmination of the internet and all that it has evolved into. It’s the future of the internet in short but it is truly so much more than that. I believe that Web 3.0 will be the pathway for small creators to really flourish. I believe that the large corp way of doing things is beginning to reveal all of the greed and the corruption going on behind the scenes. The population is beginning to wake up, beginning to stand up and rise from the ashes like a Phoenix born again. Web 3.0 is going to be the catalyst to launch a new breed of creatives. Organic, community focuses and fully immersive content will be where the future lays. I imagine traveling and building strong multi cultural relationships with people all over the world will be the new norm. I imagine a world closer more than ever. But I’m getting ahold of myself, I’ve broken down a few key points of just how Web3 will accomplish this followed by how Brangerine will fall into this new space.
A.I.
Artificial Intelligence plays a huge role into the new evolved internet. Behind every smart engine there currently is an A.I. providing you with data. But what if the internet could fully understand you there wouldn’t be a need to make sure you get the right keywords in, it would be as simple as asking the right questions, your computer would have all the answers right at your fingertips.
Semantic Web
The Semantic Web means the internets a.i. will be so advanced that it will not only understand the words and context behind the information you’re providing but it will also associate the words with other words not even mentioned. For example us alive folk can see a tree and our minds automatically will interpret that tree as “green leaves” “tree trunk” “branches” “bark” “brown” “green” etc. Without ever having to explain it. Not the best example but essentially the internet is getting smart like really smart.
DLT
Distributed Ledger Technology, aka The Blockchain. DLTs play a huge role in Web 3.0 as it acts as the means to verify digital assets, whether that is currency like crypto’s or documents such as NFT’s (insert Aliens On The Ave plug). The Blockchain is an ongoing public ledger that is able to cross verify digital assets in a secure manner. This technology will take businesses to all new heights, it will save $ in the long run, make project management much more organized, supply chains will be uniform and consistent amongst multiple platforms. How the Blockchain plays with the evolution of the internet is, websites can now offer users a unique personal avatar that with customizable perks, amongst various other perks.
The Metaverse
The metaverse is something everyone has heard of these days. Think Ready Player One, my daughter and I love that movie. This is probably the coolest feature, this will allow the internet to be fully immersive, a virtual space that you can literally walk into. Aliens On The Ave is creating an immersive creative coworking space for it’s members, simply by owning one of our NFT’s you’ll gain access to an exclusive creative community.
Connectivity
Because of this new found intelligence of the internet, the semantic web will make online communities engage and connect on a deeper level. For those of you that are gamers think of a mixture of World of Warcraft on a grander more interactive scale.
Ubiquity
IoT aka Internet of Things within the web 3 space will make our essential devices interact with our virtual worlds in a unique way. Rewards points will expire in exchange for a royalty crypto that could build up release new features for a tenured client, allowing for deeper brand and customer relationships to flourish. For Instance AOTA recently released AVE token. NFT holders received an airdrop of 7142 tokens per NFT held. This token in the future would act as a currency within our community. Think Robux for Roblox or VBucks for Fortnite.
Summary
With all of these new features becoming reality, Brangerine intends on helping businesses adapt and become born anew within this new age of the internet. With this new strategy we will be introducing a list of services that will begin to be offered. Because of this we are also making alterations to our prices. Stay tuned :)
Thanks,
Jake

Working From Home During Quarantine
I understand how this pandemic situation has turned our daily routines into utter chaos, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
First and foremost if you are reading this thank you, I feel for you and your family. I understand how this pandemic situation has turned our daily routines into utter chaos, but it doesn’t have to be that way.
My day job for those that don’t know is in the remodeling space, we do windows, kitchens & bath rooms. Coming into a strangers home with a mask. Hand sanitizer and a UV sanitizing wand is new norm but the job has been relatively the same. It’s the conversations I’ve had with these families that I’d like to share with you today.
Here are 10 tips to make working from home more efficient and enjoyable.
Routine. It may seem as a no brainer to some, but for others having trouble working from home, this can be the difference between actually getting the work done or not. Don’t have to be a robot but structure your day a little to work smarter not harder. Check out “The 4 Hr Workweek” by Tim Ferriss
Set Daily Tasks/Goals. I’d recommend setting daily goals for whenever you work but especially while working from home. Distractions are all around when you are home; the laundry, dishes, TV, etc. Having goals that are in place for the day will help you stay on task.
Get Out. Practice social distancing while getting out of the house. Chances are there is an entire ecosystem in your backyard no matter the appearance, exploring your nearest neighbors can be enjoyable and has been proven to reduce depression. Take a walk, for me it’s a bike ride or grabbing my skateboard for a ride around the block.
Stretch. Get the blood flowing, muscles limber, you can stretch while you’re on a call. Louise Dickens has 15 quick stretches to do while in the office
Be Thankful. I’ve talked to a few families in the recent and this tip has come directly from them. Understanding that others have lost their jobs it’s imperative to be thankful for what you do have. Things could be worse. Wake up with purpose and take on the day.
Vent. Not to take away from number five at all but one thing I learned while selling Cutco knives in college was the 5 minute rule. You are welcome to vent to your partner/ coworker for 5 minutes anything past that you’re just soaking the energy out of the both of you. Life happens get the anger out and back to being proactive.
Accountability/Support. I’m a huge believer of team work makes the dream work. Having a partner in your corner works wonders. An accountability partner is a person who coaches another person in terms of helping the other person keep a commitment. Currently Justin over at Ugly is my partner. Posted Brotha!
Dress The Part. I’m guilty of wearing pj’s below the waist and button ups about the waist line on a zoom call for sure! Haha. But there’s something about looking good before you work that I believe gives your day a little extra in the ordinary. When you feel good you do good.
Be Present. If you take anything from these tips I’d say this is the most important. It goes without saying that time sure does fly and whether things adjust in a few weeks or a few months, being present with your actions can really be impactful. Enjoy life and enjoy the time you have with others always
Stay Organized/ Clean. I don’t mean get distracted with the dishes, laundry and all that but clean your work area a bit. I’m all about efficiency and a minute spent planning/ organizing can save you hours on the back end.
Bonus. When you are out running errands please don’t wear gloves, they are quite useless, a mask and washing your hands is fine enough. I carry a UV wand to sterilize my mask daily. If you happen to see gloves on the flood pick them up and throw them away.

Crushing Cans (and Habits)
5-4-3-2-1. This is a common technique for coping with anxiety, depression, trauma triggers, etc. I use it almost every day.
It was the same walk I take every day back to my car.
5 things you see, 4 things you can touch, 3 things you hear, 2 things you smell, 1 thing you can taste ...
Smell is always the hardest one for me. Not because I don't have a nose, but because there are certain smells in San Francisco you DON'T want to focus on when walking down an alley. I once heard someone say, "San Francisco is the only place where dogs look out for human (expletive) when they go for a walk instead of the other way around."
5-4-3-2-1. This is a common technique for coping with anxiety, depression, trauma triggers, etc. I use it almost every day.
Get up early, go to the gym, read regularly, put words through a filter in your mind before speaking
On this particular day, I heard a man crushing a can on a sidewalk with his foot and a tear came to my eye. In an instant, I was taken back in time to a memory of my grandpa. Among his many great attributes, he recycled regularly. He somehow made crushing cans fun; an activity myself and all of his grandchildren enjoyed. For me, it was the sound it made, the accomplishment of saving space in a large plastic bag and the possibility that I might see money on the other side. Some easy change could get us a lotto ticket, a piece of candy or a tall can for my super hero.
Our brains are amazing. They are bio-mechanical computers, processing loads of information, like feelings and emotions constantly. The epi-center of what makes us human! But you are not your brain, so learn how it works and learn how to use it. Use its capabilities to develop good triggers and crush healthy habits. Get up early, go to the gym, read regularly, put words through a filter in your mind before speaking, practice gratitude and optimisim, pray, meditate, and excel in all areas of your life.
Here are 3 tips:
1) Use the 5-4-3-2-1 method mentioned above.
I can't take credit for this one, but I am a witness to its power. This simple method helps you practice being hyper-focused on a regular basis. Battling anxiety? Become hyper-focused on healthy thoughts. Battling exhaustion? Become hyper-focused on closing all of those "open-doors" in your mind that never get closed throughout the day, the ones that keep you awake at night. Stressing about hitting your sales quota? Become hyper-focused on the ONE thing you need to do this minute that will make you 1% more successful, more prepared or more optimistic.
2) CUE --> CRAVING --> RESPONSE --> REWARD.
In Atomic Habits by James Clear, he explains understanding habits and how they work in this way. My challenge to you is to write down one habit you want to break and one habit you want to make. For the habit you're going to break, start backwards, and visualize each part of the process above. When you work back and figure out what the cue is (a smell, a sight, something you hear, feel, taste or think), then you know where and what to work on. When establishing a new habit, create a visual or audio cue, develop a craving over time, take action with a response, then reward yourself (it can be phsyical or mental).
3) Perform "surgery" on your thoughts
. Have you ever noticed yourself getting worked up over nothing or experiencing an intense mood swing out of no where? Or the opposite. Ever been in a public place surrounded by strangers and you find yourself smiling for no reason? It's easy to think "that's just how I am" or that this happens randomly. But 99% of the time, there is some kind of cue. It could have started seconds, minutes, days or even weeks before the moment you find yourself in. The next time this happens, step out of your body and out of time for a minute. Picture the thought as if it is an object in front of you. Put your hand out and grab it. Now open it up. What do you find? What story comes to mind? Why is there an emotion attached to it? Is it something in your past, or something you think will be in your future?
If it's a positive thought, then tear it in half and give a piece to the next person you see, no matter what.
If it's a negative thought, then place it on the ground, bring your knee to your chest and crush it like a can under your foot.
Evernote for Business
Evernote helps people focus on what matters most to them. It’s where ideas become answers, where individuals organize their daily lives, and where teams come to create and share work together.
Here are our 5 tips to get the most out of Evernote
If you’re a note taker you’ve probably heard of Evernote. It’s a note taking app available on all devices, but not just any note taking app, in fact thats an understatement. Evernote has stood the test of time because of how well it syncs with all of your devices. In this blog post I’m going to cover how I use Evernote to remain productive in the busy world we live in today.
Ok so what is Evernote first? It is cloud storage productivity app that organizes your life. Evernote makes it easy to snap a photo of a slide deck, record a meeting, keep track of tasks, share a document, and the list goes on. To learn all of Evernote’s features go here.
Top 5 Tips
#1 Organize everything
Think of Evernote as your digital backpack. It stores everything you need in one neat little app on all of your devices. Yes all of them (with subscription, it’s totally worth). First things first, create notebooks for all the different categories you’d like to keep organized. Personal, Work, School, etc.
#2 Creating Tags
One of the Evernotes key features is it’s ability to tag notes. By using the tags correctly, you can take notes with out having to search as deeply with in the notebook. Not only will tags help you stay organized they can also do the opposite if you put too many tags that never get used, to prevent this I would recommend simplifying them to only a few per notebook.
For example: Tags you might use for work would be are: Projects, Events, promotions, meetings, taxes, receipts, schedule, etc.
#3 Remove the Clutter (other apps)
This was a game changer for me. When I started using Evernote, I was only using it partially to take my notes, I found myself still using the iphone notes app. That became a problem when it came time to search for things, I’d have to check both apps and it became a headache at the end of the day. I finally ended my relationship with Notes and devoted myself to Evernote. The transition took some time to move all my notes into one place but soon as I did. I was a like a well oiled machine. I recommend this for that reason and all the features that other notes app lacks, Evernote picks up with ease.
Team Tip: Evernote has a feature called Stacks it allows you to organize multiple notebooks under one “Stack” to further clean up the interface. If you have more than one job you might have a stack Titled Work and within that stack have all your work notebooks together. It’s important to note that stacks are put together for you and you only so you won’t be able to share stacks however notebooks and notes with in the stacks may still be shared.
#4 Share notes/ notebooks
Keep those close to you up to date with cloud storage sharing. I share notebooks with friends for vacation itineraries (save passports for extra protection while traveling internationally), project notebooks amongst colleagues, school assignments with your classmates, there is no limit to the number of shared notebooks you have.
The original creator has access to permissions. This is perfect for team members that need access to important information on a project.
Team Tip: Brangerine has a shared folder for client projects, brand guidelines, design tips, social media, & meetings.
#5 Use it Daily
This might feel like over kill at first so take your time and just get used to the habit of taking notes. My first notes with Evernote were back in 2009 literally a decade ago. From what I’ve learned is I could have saved plenty of time fumbling through paperwork, journals, if I would of organized those early on using Evernote. Between the voice, photo, and text based tools Evernote makes it easy to capture something that is important to you and makes easy to find later.
Team Tip: If you want to take it one step further and up your note taking experience to the next level check this out 8 tips on going paperless with Evernote! Save the Trees!
Find the Right People For Your Business
What is the ecosystem of YOUR business? People + Environment = ?
Let's break it down...
Ecosystem: a biological community of interacting organisms and their physical environment.
Maybe this whole time, we've been asking ourselves the wrong question:
"How do I find the right people?"
Having the right team is crucial to success in business. More importantly, having a proper ecosystem breeds replication. In this article, we will discuss why having the right people running your business can make all the difference.
Let's take it from the top, shall we? Or, the bottom, rather. Let's dissect your business from the roots and see what we can dig up.
Many businesses find themselves in a purgatory between stagnating and breaking barriers. Some are losing money every day while others are in a place where productivity is electric. But remember, even if you're standing on top of a mountain, the earth is still 238,900 miles away from the moon. (yes, I googled it)
Speaking of the $527 billion giant, (googled that, too) how does an idea turn into the world's second largest company? What manifested the concept?
Aside from technology - which we'll get to later - people are the driving force behind a successful company. Let's look at a two part concept of an ecosystem:
Biology + Environment
- "Jellyfish have been proven to be the most energy efficient swimmers of all animals."
- "Jellyfish lifespans typically range from a few hours (in the case of some very small hydromedusae) to several months; there are some indications that deep sea species may live on the order of years."
Biology
What kind of people do you want on your team?
Are they energy efficient, but maintain a short life span?
Are they spineless and reckless?
Are they fearless, yet tactful?
What is more important to you, intellectual nature or proactive nature?
Are they master communicators?
Do you want sheep or lions?
How many hunters do you need?
And they can't all hunt, someone must tend to the village, so who are your homemakers?
Here's a tough question: WHAT DOES THEIR LEADER LOOK LIKE?
THAT'S YOU!!
I hope you can answer that question without hesitation. Did you notice how none of those questions asked about a person's resume? Now, understand that experience and qualifications are essential, but not the most important part.
These organisms that interact and work together on a daily basis are all part of the ecosystem. As business owners, we need a clear vision for the type of people we need. This is about culture.
If you are a restaurant looking for expansion and leadership, then it doesn't matter what grades a person got in college. It's irrelevant when the pressure is insurmountable and you need a lion instead of a parrot. The kid with something to prove to himself will outwork the one who's trying to prove something to others.
Let's change lenses for a second to get a different view. If you are a technology-based company, then maybe now, we weigh data set and knowledge a little heavier. A brain that can scale numbers and formulas is a great tool for productivity.
Environment
- "Most jellyfish are marine animals, although a few hydromedusa inhabit freshwater."
What does your work space look like?
What kind of resources does your team have?
Are they doing things the old fashioned way on pen and paper or using Macbooks and apps?
What environment is necessary, old and rustic for effect?
Or is it new and trendy for aesthetics?
Is your team hungry all the time?
Do they stare at the clock all day waiting to get off, or do they stick around for office/team building functions?
Do they WANT TO BE HERE?
If you take nothing else away from this article, then at least chew on this one: you can motivate almost any "millenial" with food and a stimulating office space.
We are a rare species that has evolved from the depths of elderly skepticism, predicated on the assumption of status-quo as an end-all-be-all format for societal acceptance. We are a paradoxical organism. On one hand, we eat organic and lean. On the other, we will take a whole pizza to the face. One day we're hitting the gym and taking care of our health, the next we're destroying it with a few nights out. And our body is 63.5% coffee.
All jokes aside, it isn't impossible to meet your people where they want to be met. We could spend all day discussing what it means to establish the right ecosystem, but understand that culture creates consistency. A predetermined ecosystem, before someone is hired, will communicate proper expectations. You now have a living and breathing mission statement/ mantra/ motto.
- "Jellyfish adversely affect humanity by interfering with public systems and harming swimmers. The most obvious consequences are human injury or death and reduced coastal tourism. Jellies destroy fish nets, poison or crush captured fish, and consume fish eggs and young fish. The most venomous jellyfish is the box jellyfish which produces enough poison to kill 60 humans and is the reason for 1 death per year."
It's simple, let's stop hiring jellyfish if business doesn't call for it.
Some Helpful Statistics:
1) Some 73 percent of organizations revamp their on-boarding to improve their employee retention.
2) One third of new hires quit their job after about six (6) months.
3) Referred employees have a 45 percent retention rate after two years.
4) Nearly four out of five (78 percent) of business leaders rank employee retention as important or urgent.
5) Remote workers are 50 percent less likely to quit.
6) One third (33 percent) of employees knew whether they would stay with their company long-term after their first week.
7) Some 35 percent of employees will start looking for a job if they don’t receive a pay raise in the next 12 months.
8) One third (33 percent) of leaders at companies with 100 plus employees are currently looking for jobs.
9) 32 percent of employers say they expect employees to job-hop.
So back to our original question:
"How do I find the right people?"
A better question is:
"How do I get the right people to find me?"
Remember, Culture Creates Consistency

5 Reasons Why Your Business Is Failing
Also keep in mind that a business failing is still a business, in business. However, you do need to change.
It's happy hour where's everyone at?!
The open sign is lit, it's a nice day out, and you have specials going on and it's empty. What's going on? If you have been there more times than you can remember, stay calm. Also keep in mind that a business failing is still a business, in business. However, you do need to change.
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results"
- Albert Einstein
1. Lack of Effective Marketing
The biggest opportunity you have to change is marketing. Not every business owner is a natural born marketing pro. In fact we've come to find out that the know it alls actually don't know much. When you have jobs on the line, and your business is in jeopardy. Somebody has to take action. Yes marketing is absolutely an investment in time and money. Being decisive about making that investment will reap you the reward in the long run.
2. You Don't Know Your Demographic
This is critical because how else do you present a solution for a problem if you don't know your demographics problem. How do you show them they have a problem if you don't know who they even are? Think of an ice-cream man, he drives through the streets knowing kids are out playing and their parents with their wallets are nearby. The point is you may be that ice-cream man driving down the business district rather than the neighborhood.
3. Get With The Times
Things are heading in a new light and thats social media. If your company is not active on various outlets then you are doing damage to your company and to your image. There should be a strategy in place for your online social campaigns. Don't be that company that talks about themselves all the time. Or that company trying to get "likes" saying pointless things to stay active. It's more of a hub, full of people that recognize your company and want to follow it. Give them content worth following.
4. Know Your Margins
If you are busy with more work than you can handle but you can't seem to pay the bills or your staff than you have a pricing issue. Pricing products is a much easier thing than pricing services, that being said it would be everything should be factored into your cost of operations.
